At Multnomah, our staff and faculty care for our students. It spans more than 40 hours a week. We pray for and with our students, listen to them over coffee, and invest in their academic, personal, and spiritual growth; and it is a privilege.
Integrative
Student Development
College is an incredible time of growth that takes place through various circumstances including adversity, unforeseen challenges, new responsibilities, new roles, and relationships. Our Student Service Teams provide holistic support that empowers students to thrive at Multnomah University. Whether it be working on a resume, addressing life issues with a counselor, launching new inclusive initiatives, or receiving academic help from a tutor, we want to walk alongside students in practical and meaningful ways.
Life management
We challenge and support students to pursue well-balanced and healthy lifestyles through programs and resources designed to nurture spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. We partner with faculty, staff, alumni, and Portland community leaders to equip students with important life skills and knowledge in the following areas: cultural awareness, pursuing vocational goals, managing finances, and managing stress and transitions.
Leadership development
We develop our students’ leadership abilities through several avenues. The Voices Scholar program develops students of color and their allies into leaders through mentorship, training, creating inclusive initiatives and events, and much more. We provide over 40 paid student leadership positions for current students such as Residence Life staff, Commuter Assistants, Tutors, Student Government, and Student Involvement positions. MU students make meaningful contributions to our university life and gain valuable experience for their careers.
Character formation
Our highest priority is facilitating the continual development of Christian character. Whether it’s in the context of leadership, counseling, student conduct, or academics, we not only have a high standard for each other as Christians, we have a redemptive and developmental model to challenge and support you in the process of being formed in the image of Christ. We walk with students to understand diverse perspectives, thrive in the classroom, deepen their faith, and become dynamic agents of Christlike change for the Kingdom.
